<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine that can control swirling flows and tumbling flows generated in a combustion chamber by a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine includes: air intake ports 51, 52 extending upstream from a plurality of air intake valves 64; and throttle valves 85, 86 provided upstream of the air intake ports 51, 52.
