<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly crush blocks of cake of water purification plant to a desired particle size with controlled dusting and noising. <P>SOLUTION: Rotary blades 3 rotate with a clearance of t to stationary blades 10. The cake is crushed not by an impact shear action like in a roller crusher but by a two step crushing: first by impact crushing by rotational force and then re-crushing by impact by the stationary blades. This reduces pulverization as compared to crushing by a roller crusher. Further, the smaller impact crushing force leads to a smaller noise, a reduced dusting hence resulting in an improved work environment as compared to a roller crusher. Crushed cake k passed through between the stationary blades and the rotary blades goes through screen 8 having a specific mesh.
