<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat pump apparatus capable of increasing the amount of circulation using an indoor heat exchanger (evaporator) on the utilization side during cooling operation, for a high efficient operation. <P>SOLUTION: During a cooling operation, a bypass expansion valve 43 is controlled to be opened to form a bypass path. A part of the coolant compressed to an intermediate pressure is bypassed to flow through the bypass path from a point 31d of intermediate pressure of a compressor 31, for heat exchanging by a first internal heat exchanger 41.
