The element (10) has a molded body (12) made of a material with a foam structure and including a set of sectioned hollow chambers (16). The foam structure includes a metal foam i.e. aluminum foam, and where the material with the foam structure includes thickness 0.1 to 0.7 gram per centimeter cube. The hollow chambers are inwardly extended from outer surfaces (18, 24) of the molded body and opened at the outer surfaces. The hollow chambers have a shape of truncated cones, truncated pyramids, cylinders or prisms, and are tapered along a defined direction (20) of the molded body. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing molded body for an energy absorption element.
