The present invention describes a material and method for reducing the content of arsenic present in different waters, such as underground, surface, municipal and industrial waters. The material used for reducing arsenic is a material manufactured from residues resulting from iron and steel processes, a material which has chemical and physical characteristics providing a high capacity to remove arsenic, also allowing these residues to be recovered in an easy manner after the method for removing arsenic has been applied. The material comprises: SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, MgO, MnO, Fe, S, C, Na2O, K2O and Zn.
