PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for producing a functional fiber composed of a more complete compound material of a natural plant-based fiber and a zeolite crystal substance. SOLUTION: The functional fiber having a zeolite crystal substance is produced by impregnating a swollen natural plant-based fiber with a mixed aqueous solution of a water-soluble silicon compound and a water-soluble aluminum compound while stepwise increasing the concentration of the mixed aqueous solution in the presence of a basic substance, heat-treating the impregnated natural plant-based fiber and precipitating a zeolite crystal substance on the surface and on the inside and void of the natural plant-based fiber.
