A rimless vehicle wheel comprises a hub 10 and cantilevered blades 12 spaced around the hub 10. Each blade 12 has an inner root extending from the hub 10, an outer tip, and first and second major blade 12 surfaces extending between the root 14 and tip 16. Each blade 12 has a stiffness allowing independent flexure, along at least part of its length, between an unloaded blade configuration and loaded configurations. The depth of a blade 12 from front to back in the meridian plane near the blade tip 16 is greater than the same measurement proximate the blade root 14. The blades 12 are adapted to flex in the circumferential plane. Multi-part sleeves (20a,20b see fig 5a) are adhered to the blade tips 16 so as to provide a sacrificial wearing surface. The invention may be used on snow and ice or for amphibious vehicles and is invulnerable to punctures. |
