[Class 12 (i)] Ball or roller bearings to be mounted in housings of non-ferrous material, e.g. of aluminium alloy, the thermal expansion of which is higher, have the bearing encircled by an outer ring 3 of a material having an expansion equivalent to such non-ferrous material into which ring 3 the bearing 1 is forced cold to give an interference fit sufficient to counterbalance the thermal expansion. The re-inforcing ring and bearing is ground or otherwise finished as a single unit to the required final dimensions. The ring is shaped so as to be secured against movement on the bearing, e.g. by moulding to the bevel or curved edges 4 of the outer race member, or it may have a flange 8, Fig. 7, at one side and a screw-in flange ring 9 at the other side. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a ball or roller bearing with the outer race encircled by a re-inforcing ring, the outer race and the ring being made of sintered powder materials and welded together. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
