Device for protecting an optical instrument of a satellite

The device has a set of rigid panels (202, 203) maintained against a body of a satellite in folded-down position and forming a polygonal sectioned tube i.e. hexagonal sectioned tube, in deployed position, where longitudinal axis of the tube is parallel to focal axis of an optical instrument of the satellite. The panels are arranged to protect the optical instrument of the satellite. A polygon face is formed of a subset of the rigid panels, where the rigid panels are linked together by self-powered articulations (211-213).
