[Class 89(i)] An insert for use especially in blind holes in plastic materials to provide a socket for a screw comprises a tapped sleeve 10, Fig. 8, with the inner end provided with laterally projecting teeth 17 and with slots 14 that enable the segments 20 to be closed in radially to permit insertion of the sleeve in the hole, after which an expander 11 having projections 21, Fig. 4. sliding in the slots 14 is forced by a punch or by a screw to the inner end of the sleeve driving the teeth 17 into the wall of the hole. In a modification the projections of the expander slide in grooves formed in the segments midway between the slots and in a further form the number of slots is reduced from four to two.
