[Class 83 (iv)] A solder stick for soldering aluminium and aluminium alloys comprises a reacting composition to remove the oxide film from the aluminium and deposit a covering material, contained in a tube of added metal. The composition may be 90 parts tin chloride, 8 parts ammonium chloride, and 2 parts potassium or sodium fluoride as a flux and the tube may be of tin. The tin chloride may be replaced wholly or in part by zinc chloride. Other halides may be used and the tube formed by extrusion, drawing or folding and have blind spots in the bore for cutting an indefinite length into shorter lengths without exposing the reagent to air or moisture. The tube may be round, triangular or flat in section. Small pieces are united by activating them with the solder material and then immersing them together in molten tin. |
