PURPOSE: A device and a method for managing a recording medium of a block box for a vehicle are provided to record only meaningful dynamic images not static images and to multiply a retention period of the images recorded in a recording medium. CONSTITUTION: A device(100) for managing a recording medium of a block box for a vehicle comprises a motion sensing unit(110), a time measuring unit(120), and a saving command unit(130). The motion sensing unit senses motions of a subject based on image data input from outside. The time measuring unit measures first time from time in which a first motion of the subject is sensed. The saving command unit compares the first time with first set time. The saving command unit sends saving or saving standby command of the image data to a recording medium(101).
