The invention relates to a riser system 2, (202 figure 3b) and comprises a riser 4, (204 figure 3b) configured to be secured between a floating body 6,( 206 figure 3b) and a subsea location 9, (209 figure 3b). The riser 4, (204 figure 3b) comprises a composite material formed of at least a matrix and one or more reinforcing elements embedded within the matrix. The composite material is configured to accommodate motion of the floating body 6, (206 figure 3b) relative to the subsea location 9, 209 figure 3b). The floating body 6, (206 figure 3b) may comprise a vessel or a floating platform or the like. The riser 4 may be configured to be secured to a fluid port at the subsea location such as a fluid port of a wellhead arrangement 8, (208 figure 3b) or a fluid port of a manifold or the like.
