<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper transport device and an image forming apparatus capable of avoiding a situation that the movement of paper is detected at the time of paper reversal. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a detection section 300 that detects a piece of paper conveyed in a first direction on a first transport path 20a arrives at a reversal position. The detection section 300 includes a first member 310 arranged at the reversal position side rather than a bifurcation point 20b to a second transport path 20c. The first member 310 changes a posture among a first posture, a second posture rotated to a first direction, and a third posture rotated to a second reverse direction. Movement from the first posture to the second posture is transmitted to the second member that takes two postures against a detector.
