<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which can have high color rendering properties important as a light source for illumination, has an especially high average color rendering index Ra and a special color rendering index for red R9 and also has high rendering color/high performance white color with high efficiency and long life. <P>SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element is formed by including: a transparent electrode 1; a blue light-emitting layer 2 containing a blue light-emitting material having the maximum emission wavelength of 460 nm or less; a first green light-emitting layer 3 containing a first green light-emitting material having the maximum emission wavelength between 460 nm and 540 nm; a second green light-emitting layer 5 containing a second green light-emitting material having the maximum emission wavelength between 540 nm and 610 nm; a red light-emitting layer 4 containing a red light-emitting material having the maximum emission wavelength of 610 nm or more; and a reflection electrode 6. (The light emission intensity of the second green light-emitting layer 5)/(the light emission intensity of the red light-emitting layer 4) is 0.66 or less. (The light emission intensity of the blue light-emitting layer 2)/(the light emission intensity of the red light-emitting layer 4) is 0.20 or more.
