<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display device which is capable of performing display with natural texture like paper and is capable of reducing the fatigue of user's eyes. <P>SOLUTION: The electrophoretic display device includes: an element substrate and a counter substrate disposed so as to face each other; an electrophoretic layer 32 which is held between the element substrate and the counter substrate and is driven by a difference between a potential applied to a plurality of pixel electrodes provided on the element substrate and a potential applied to a counter electrode provided on the counter substrate; and a plurality of spacers 11 which are disposed between the element substrate and the counter substrate and are visually recognized from the counter substrate side.
