<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection mechanism capable of reducing a cushioning action in impact. <P>SOLUTION: The occupant protection mechanism 200 includes a front bar 111 and a rear bar 121 attached with one end to a vehicular front or rear bumper, and movable inward a vehicle body by a force from outside a vehicle body, springs 113, 123 for pressing the bars 111, 121 toward the outside a vehicle body, push-up parts 141, 151 connected to the other ends of the bars 111, 121, and having sloped faces 141a, 151a on the inside a vehicle body, and a seat 160 having leg parts 161, 162.
