<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide information about means of transportation available for a travel from a current position to a destination without requiring a user of a portable terminal to start an application or to perform a retrieval operation. <P>SOLUTION: When power is supplied to a portable terminal device, it measures the current position (S1) and transmits an information providing request signal which includes current position information and destination information to an information providing server (S2). When the information providing server receives the information providing request signal (S11: Yes), it acquires information about means of transportation available for a travel from the current position to the destination based on the current position information and the destination information included in the information providing request signal (S12) and transmits it to the portable terminal device (S13).
