<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable abnormality in a light source device to be detected without increasing the size of the light source device. <P>SOLUTION: An illumination system consisting of a light source device composed of an excitation light source 16, an optical fiber 18, and a wavelength conversion unit 20 connected in that order and an operation confirmation device 14 for confirming that the light source device is operating normally, includes a connection part 40 which physically connects an optical signal emission edge 32 incorporating the wavelength conversion unit in the light source device and the operation confirmation device directly together; a temperature sensor 28 which, while the optical signal emission edge and the operation confirmation device are connected by the connection part, detects a heat generating condition of the optical signal emission edge; and light source controller 22 which has a determination circuit to determine, on the basis of the heat generating condition detected by the temperature sensor, whether the light source device, the optical fiber, and the wavelength conversion unit each are operating normally. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
