<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a load drive device that suppresses loss based on a setting of clamp voltage for short circuit protection. <P>SOLUTION: A temperature, output current, mirror current or gate threshold voltage Vth of an IGBT 1 is detected, and a clamp voltage depending on a variation in a mirror voltage Vmirror is computed from any one of them. The clamp voltage can thus be suppressed to a low value corresponding to the mirror voltage Vmirror in the situation, and the clamp voltage can be suppressed to a lower value than when the clamp voltage is designed in consideration of a maximum value of variation in the mirror voltage Vmirror, that is a maximum value accommodating every environmental change.
