<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emulate signal light deteriorated by propagation of an optical transmission line. <P>SOLUTION: A light modulation unit comprises: first polarization separation means for separating input light into polarized wave components orthogonal to each other; optical phase modulation means for performing optical phase modulation to light separated by the first polarization separation means for each polarized wave component; optical intensity modulation means connected with the optical phase modulation means in series for performing optical intensity modulation to the light separated by the first polarization separation means for each polarized wave component; second polarization separation means for merging and outputting the separated light that passed through the optical intensity modulation means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT
