<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is difficult to promote the rise of a catalyst floor temperature according to the change in an operating condition after the start if the ignition timing is uniformly retarded irrespective of the condition of the internal combustion engine in the internal combustion engine in which the ignition timing is retarded after the start of the engine. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a method for controlling ignition timing in the spark ignition type internal combustion engine that has a catalyst in an exhaust passage, and promotes warming-up of the catalyst by retarding the ignition timing after the start. It is determined whether or not the internal combustion engine has started. In a case where it is determined that the engine has started, an air-fuel ratio is led to a lean side temporarily and the control for leading the air-fuel ratio to the lean side is terminated. Then, the ignition timing is retarded with an amount of ignition timing retardation per unit time greater than the amount of ignition timing retardation per unit time after the start. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
