<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-supporting handrail which can be easily installed despite its heavy base. <P>SOLUTION: This self-supporting handrail 1 comprises a base 2 and a handrail section 3 standing on the base. The base 2 includes first and second metal plates, 21 and 22, laterally splittable from each other. The first metal plate 21 has a first connecting section 23 to be connected with the second metal plate 22, while the second metal plate 22 has a second connecting section 24 to be connected with the first metal plate 21.
