<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink composition with the excellent maintenance property and the excellent rubbing resistance of an image after passage of time from ink application, an ink set and an image forming method. <P>SOLUTION: The ink composition includes a self-dispersion type pigment with a carboxylic acid group bonded with the pigment surface directly or via another atomic group, a tertiary amine, a water-soluble organic solvent and water in a state with 50-90 mol% of the carboxylic group on the self-dispersion type pigment surface neutralized by the tertiary amine. The water-soluble organic solvent includes at least one kind of a solvent or a polar solvent of a 27.5 or lower SP value.
