The method involves arranging two heat exchangers (16,22) for exchanging heat between the engine coolant and the transmission fluid. The former heat exchanger is provided for cooling of the engine coolant. The transmission fluid temperature is determined directly or indirectly, and engine coolant is passed through the two heat exchangers, when the fluid temperature is greater than the predetermined temperature limit value. The engine coolant is passed, fully or partially, through the latter heat exchanger by increasing the transmission fluid temperature. An independent claim is included for a heat exchange assembly with a coolant circuit for an engine coolant.
