Using the plurality of areas one area at a time in sequence as subject areas, a light-emission luminance correction unit (152) performs luminance diffusion processing, blur processing, or other correction relative to the first light-emission luminance (Db1) of the areas surrounding the subject area, whereby a suitable backlight luminance distribution is set even when there is straddling of the boundary with the adjacent display device.
