<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify mutated HCVs or other viruses that exhibit resistance to drugs or other therapies and to provide new viral therapeutics effective against the mutated viruses. <P>SOLUTION: The invention provides HCV variants, and related methods and compositions. In particular, HCV variants and variant HCV proteases that have reduced sensitivity to one or more protease inhibitors such as VX-950 are provided.
