The present invention is a robot for a care recipient that simulates a nursing infant. This robot has: an external stimulus sensor that detects external stimuli; an internal state sensor that detects the internal state of the robot; a state expression device that indicates the robot's expression; and a control unit that assesses the robot's state on the basis of a detection signal from the external stimulus sensor and a detection signal from the internal state sensor, and that, in response to the state, operates the state expression device. The robot's internal state includes a normal state representing a good mood, an appetitive state representing a worse mood than the normal state, and a dormant state representing sleeping.
