Provided is an image display device which includes an LCD (116) for displaying image data, and an LCD backlight (117) for illuminating the LCD (116) for a predetermined period. The image display device is provided with: a storage unit (112) for storing the image data and lighting period readjustment information for resetting the lighting period of the LCD backlight (117) to a period that is different from the predetermined period; an operation unit (111) which selects the image data; an image analysis unit (115) for analysing the selected image data; and a control unit (113) for setting the lighting period of the backlight unit in accordance with the lighting period readjustment information and the analysis result.
