Provided is an image capturing apparatus, wherein an optimum image-capturing mode can be selected upon start-up thereof. The image capturing apparatus, which captures an image with an image-capturing mode from among a plurality of image capturing modes, is provided with: a start-up unit that starts up the image capturing apparatus; a storage unit that has stored therein the image capturing mode set upon the preceding start-up; and a control unit that obtains the start-up time, obtains the position of the image capturing apparatus, and evaluates whether to continue the image capturing mode that was set upon the preceding start-up and stored in the storage unit, on the basis of the start-up time and/or the position of the image capturing apparatus.
