<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic photograph making apparatus in which a state where an additional image to be combined with a photographed image covers a face portion of a user is decreased or eliminated without requiring operation of a user. <P>SOLUTION: In the present automatic photograph making apparatus, a combining position of an additional image is initially set (S500), an overlapping amount of a specific element image whose position is movable and a face area subjected to image recognition is calculated (S510), and when the amount is a predetermined value or less (S520), the combining position is shifted to a lower position (S530), in the case of the predetermined value or more, the position is shifted to a lower limit position (S540). Subsequently, an overlapping amount of each of plural decoration element images whose position is not movable and the face area is calculated sequentially (S550), and when the amount is more than a predetermined value, the image is deleted (S570). Such processing is repeated until all the calculation is completed (S580) and combining is performed (S590).
