<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To binarize an RF analog signal correctly even if a DC component is included therein. <P>SOLUTION: A comparator 16 compares an RF analog signal read from an optical disk with a slice level to binarize it. A first slicer 10 outputs as the slice level an average of peak and bottom levels of the RF analog signal, and a second slicer 12 outputs as the slice level an average of peak and bottom levels of a continuous pattern portion of a signal string.
