When stopping the generation of electricity by a fuel cell stack (3), the leading in and out of anode gas to and from an anode (31) and the leading in and out of cathode gas to and from a cathode (32) is cut off. In this state, the water level in an anode-side water tank (7) increases, and anode gas inside the anode-side water tank (7) is supplied to the anode (31), thus pressurizing the anode (31). At such time, hydrogen moves from the anode (31) side, which is pressurized due to the anode gas, to the cathode (32) side, thereby also pressurizing the cathode (32) side. Since the anode (31) side and the cathode (32) side are thus pressurized, the diffusion of oxygen from outside the fuel cell stack (3) to inside the anode (31) and the cathode (32) is suppressed so that the deterioration of electrodes in the fuel cell stack (3) can be suppressed. |
