PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material that has, at a given basis weight, strength and barrier properties at least equivalent to those of a Tyvek spun bonded olefin nonwoven fabric currently used for protective clothing, has largely improved breathability to enhance thermal comfortableness of protective clothing obtained from this material and is suitably used for protective clothing.

SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an improved plexifilamentary sheet material useful for protective clothing and a filtration medium that includes substantially continuous plexifilamentary fiber strands and has Frazier permeability of at least 2 cfm/ft2normalized to 1.0 oz/yd2basis weight.
