<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead-free thin film actuator which has a small remanent polarization, presents a displacement sufficient for use as an actuator by electrostrictive effect when a voltage is applied, and exhibits excellent piezoelectric characteristics, and to provide a liquid discharge head and an ink jet printer using the same. <P>SOLUTION: A composite oxide thin film represented by Ba(SnxTi1-x)O3 containing barium titanate and barium stannate as main components is used.
