<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device and a projection type display device configured in such a manner that in a peripheral electrode extending along a sealing material, a trapping ability of the peripheral electrode with respect to an ionic impurity is enhanced in a region where the ionic impurity is apt to influence on the display quality. <P>SOLUTION: An element substrate of a liquid crystal device 100 includes a peripheral electrode 8a formed thereon in a peripheral region 10b interposed between an image display region 10a and a sealing material 107; and a potential Vtrap for trapping an ionic impurity, which is different from a common potential Vcom applied to a dummy pixel electrode 9b or the like, is applied to the peripheral electrode 8a. In the peripheral electrode 8a, an electrode width dimension Wb in a first portion 8a1 opposing an encapsulating material 105 provided in a liquid crystal injection port 107a of the sealing material 107 is set to be larger than an electrode width dimension Wa in other portions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
