The present invention provides a rotary damper equipped with: a hollow housing (10), one end of which is open, and the other end of which is completely occluded by an end wall (11); a bearing part (13) formed on the end wall (11); a shaft (20) that mates with the bearing part (13); a metal plug (30) which has a hole (31) that supports the shaft (20), and which occludes the opening in the housing (10); partitions (40) disposed inside the housing (10) in such a manner as to be able to rotate with the rotation of the housing (10); a viscous liquid that fills the inside of chambers (71, 72) partitioned by the partitions (40); metal vanes (51, 52) disposed inside of the chambers (71, 72) in such a manner as to be able to rotate with the rotation of the shaft (20); and a sealing member (60) for preventing the viscous liquid from flowing into a mating part between the bearing part (13) and the shaft (20).
