<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for detecting at an early stage occurrence of an abnormality (adherence of thrombus) within a centrifugal blood pump. <P>SOLUTION: An external motor system 10 for actuating the centrifugal blood pump 100 is provided which includes an impeller 120 pivoted within a casing 110 and an internal magnet 128 fixed on the impeller 120. The system further includes an external magnet 28 which can be magnetically coupled with the internal magnet 128, an electric motor 22 for rotating the external magnet 28, and a torque sensor 23 for detecting rotation torque of the electric motor 22.
