A stator is provided with a stator iron core in which N slots, extending in the axial direction, are formed in the circumferential direction and a stator winding attached to the slots of the stator core. The stator winding has a plurality of winding groups constituted by including N lap-wound coils formed by a plurality of windings of a conductor wire. The plurality of winding groups is disposed as a plurality of layers in the direction of the diameter of the stator core. One coil side of a lap-wound coil is inserted into a prescribed slot for a prescribed layer on the inside in the direction of diameter, and the other coil side of the lap-wound coil is inserted into a separate slot for the prescribed layer on the outside in the direction of diameter.
