A plastic air cap (123) for a retaining ring (120) of a paint spray gun (100), or a plastic paint directing device (104), which can be inserted into a paint spray gun (100) and has a paint nozzle region (106), are distinguished by the fact that the air cap (123) has a metal insert with bores and the paint nozzle region (106) is produced from metal. The air cap (123) is preferably removably arranged in the retaining ring. This allows the air cap and the paint directing device to be produced as a disposable article.
