Proposed is a method for producing lithium sulfide by a novel dry process, the method allowing lithium sulfide to be produced more easily and inexpensively, and the lithium sulfide to be finely divided. The proposed method comprises producing lithium sulfide (Li2S) for a lithium ion cell solid electrolyte material to be used as a solid electrolyte material in a lithium ion cell, wherein the method is characterized in that lithium sulfide (Li2S) powder is obtained by bringing lithium carbonate powder and a gas containing sulfur (S) into contact with each other in a dry system, and heating the lithium carbonate.
