A backlight unit (1) provided with a plurality of light-guiding members (201, 202, 203) having: a light source unit (3) in which a plurality of LEDs (31) are arranged in a straight line and which is divided into LED blocks (321 to 323) per a predetermined number of LEDs; and a light guide plate (2) which receives the light from the light source unit (3) at a light-receiving surface and which emits the aforementioned light as planar light from a light-emitting surface. The light guide plate (2) is arranged in the same direction as the arrangement direction of the LEDs (31).
