Provided is a high frequency coil unit configured from an elliptical birdcage coil, wherein the capacity of multiple capacitors that are disposed on at least either the ring conductors or the rung conductors is standardized for each kind of conductor on which the capacitors are disposed. In said elliptical birdcage coil, the inductance value and disposition of the ring conductors and the rung conductors are determined so that the capacity of the capacitors is the same for each kind of conductor on which the capacitors are disposed.
