<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool excellent in adhesiveness and excellent in initial-wear resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The cutting tool 1 has: a TiCN layer 4 which is a lower layer and is composed of columnar crystals having an average crystal width of 0.1 to 1 μm; an Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>layer 5; and a TiCN layer 6 which is an upper layer and is composed of columnar crystals having the average crystal width greater than that of the TiCN layer 4. These layers are laminated on a surface of a base 2 in that order from the base 2 side.
