<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sole structure and an article of footwear including the same. <P>SOLUTION: The sole structure includes ridge traction elements 211-217. The ridge traction elements 211-217 may include a peripheral segment and an associated transverse segment. The peripheral segment may be proximate and generally aligned with a medial or lateral edge of the sole structure. The transverse segment may extend from the associated peripheral segment and across the sole structure, and may have a height that decreases over the length of the transverse segment.
