The average value for consumption of certain road type is determined by normalizing current consumption value. The normalized average consumption value for the particular road type is stored. The first and second path parameters for the route sections of to-be-traveled route are determined. The to-be-traveled route sections are determined based on the way parameters. The expected consumption for to-be-traveled sections is calculated based on the read road type average consumption value. An independent claim is included for motor vehicle.
