The unit (1) receives control signals from an electronic device, and is actuated by a switching element (7) in dependence of the control signals. The unit is supplied with primary-sided alternating voltage for connection of voltage converting elements (14) by the switching element by energy from the electronic device. The unit produces secondary direct voltage from the primary-sided alternating voltage by the voltage converting elements for supplying the direct voltage to the device by power supply lines (16). The unit is an external network part. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an electronic device comprising a device control unit (2) a method for saving power in an electronic peripheral device with a device control unit.
