An electromagnetic wave focusing metamaterial comprises a plurality of cubical metamaterial elements, being arranged as the first array in which the column and row is respectively along two orthogonal directions, y and z. In every row the refraction index of the metamaterial element is the same, while in every column the refraction index of the metamaterial element for electromagnetic wave is gradually decreased from a middle metamaterial element to the two ends and the variation of refraction index of the adjacent metamaterial elements for electromagnetic wave is gradually increased from the middle metamaterial element to the two ends. The metameterial elements are anisotropic for electromagnetic wave. The present invention implements the function of focusing the electromagnetic wave and the thickness is smaller than that of the prior electromagnetic wave focusing metamaterial.
