The sensor (10) has an object connected in a fixed position to the sensor with respect to another object (12) that is moved relatively to the former object, which form a potential source of danger. An evaluation unit (22) determines path and/or speed from two images of a surface structure (18) of the latter object taken by a light receiver (16). The evaluation unit evaluates quality of the determined path and/or the speed. A safety output (24) enables an evaluation signal to output a shutdown signal or brake signal to secure the danger source when a required quality is not reached. An independent claim is also included for a safety method for an optical contact-less measurement of paths and/or speeds of a safety sensor or of an object with respect to another object that is moved relative to the former object. |
