PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for managing an elevator are provided to calculate the starting power, braking power, speed, and shaking of an elevator car and the tension of a rope by detecting the acceleration, deceleration, inclination, vibration, and temperature of the elevator car and to display information about the normal operation and safety of the elevator car detecting from the calculated values. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for managing an elevator comprises a deceleration and acceleration detecting part(10), an operation switch part(40), a display part(70), a database part(80), a control part(50), and a power supply part(90). The deceleration and acceleration detecting part detects the acceleration and deceleration of an elevator car. The operation switch part is operated by users. The display part displays elevator conditions. The database part stores the detected data. After the control part detects the acceleration and deceleration of the elevator car, the acceleration and deceleration are analyzed to display information about the normal operation and safety of the elevator.
